A New Year is a great opportunity to review your fire provision, whether that be in your business or at home. It doesn’t have to be expensive either! A basic level of protection in your home won’t break the bank. Here are some pointers for your home in 2025:

• Smoke detectors – Your ONLY warning in the event of fire at night. As a bare minimum, one on each floor but for earliest detection, consider one in each room. If you have them already, check them by testing monthly. Don’t ignore low battery warnings and never take the batteries out unless replacing. Keep a spare 9v battery in the house.
• A small 2L Foam or 2Kg Powder fire extinguisher (with a fire blanket) will give you some basic firefighting ability in the home, garage or workshop should you catch a fire in its very early stages. For a developed fire or smoke-filled rooms – get out and call the professionals on 999.
• Don’t leave Tumble dryers or dishwashers on overnight. These are high fire risk items.
• Don’t leave mobiles, tablets or e-bikes charging over night. These are also high risk items.
